Mr. John Joseph McCarthy

Mr. John Joseph McCarthy, age 67, of Winter Park, FL, formerly of Nahant and Lynn, Ma, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at the Hospice of The Comforter in Altamonte Springs, FL after a lengthy illness. John was born on April 1, 1946 in Cambridge, Ma to Edwin F. McCarthy and Florence C. (Hunter) McCarthy. The youngest of four children, John (Johnny) grew up in Nahant, Ma where he spent most of his time on the beach and in the ocean. Johnny enjoyed watching his father do wood-working, and from the age of 13, working with his mother at The Rockledge Nursing Home. After graduating from Lynn English High School in 1964, he went to work in Boston, Ma for Anderson Manufacturing. Years later, he worked in the floor covering industry and became part-owner of The Carpet House in Lynn/Swampscott, Ma. A true family man, John would do anything to provide for his loved ones whether it be financial or emotional support. His easy-going nature and huge heart was what made him such a devoted and loving friend, father, papa, grandpapa, brother and son. Always smiling and laughing, his dry humor and funny antics made those around him laugh constantly. A great swimmer, card shark and ping-pong player, John loved a little friendly competition now and then and had an infectious playful spirit. He loved food and cooking, and could make the best apple pie. He loved reading and relaxing by the pool and at the beach, going to the movies and out to eat, celebrating St. Patrick's Day in Boston, visiting the camp in Vermont and just being with his family. John is survived by family members Alice E. (Waller) (McCarthy) Roderick and Paul S. Roderick of Winter Park, Fl. Son Terrence E. McCarthy of Winter Park, Fl, daughter Tracy E. McCarthy of Nashua, NH, son Steven F. McCarthy and wife Laurel (Meyers) McCarthy of Longwood, Fl, son Joseph McCarthy and wife Heather (Fitzgerald) McCarthy of Missouri and god-daughter Jessica M. Roderick of Winter Park, Fl. Sister Anne (McCarthy) Chisolm and husband Arthur Chisolm of Lexington, Ma, brother Edwin McCarthy of Billerica, Ma and sister Claire (McCarthy) Flebbe and husband Jack Flebbe of Nahant, Ma. Grandchildren Ranae, Nicole, Michael, Anya, Kayla, Connor, Megan and Courtney. Mother-in-law Pauline Waller of Winter Park, Fl. Also many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by son James McCarthy, father-in-law Ervin S.Waller and sister-in-law Suzanne McCarthy. A memorial service was held on Monday July 29th in Orlando, FL.
