Ms Daniela Banu

Daniela Banu passed away the evening of September 29th after fighting a long and hard 10-year battle with cancer. Her bravery and will to live never faded. Daniela was surrounded by her loving family and caregivers during the last days of her life. Daniela was born on November 2, 1948 in a small town in Romania, that is synonymous with Bram Stoker's literary character, Dracula. She completed her masters degree in chemical engineering in Bucharest, Romania. She came to live in the United States with her husband and daughter in 1985, leaving Romania's Communist regime to start a new life with her family in South Florida. For the last 27 years Daniela has worked for Broward County, where most recently she served as Air Quality Director for over 10 years. Throughout her career with the county, she made significant achievements to protect the air quality of the state of Florida. She was a grandmother of three, Taylor, Maya, and Chase and spent nearly all of her free time visiting her daughter and grandchildren in Orlando. She never missed an opportunity to be a part of her grandchildrens' lives. Her other loves were designing custom jewelry, reading, and gardening her orchids. Daniela was first diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer just a few weeks before the birth of her first grandchild, Taylor who is now 10 years old. The odds were against Daniela. but she was determined to beat cancer back long enough to see not just one, but all three of her grandchildren born and to give them all lasting memories of all the great times spent with their "Bobo" over the past 10 years. She will be missed deeply by all of her family, friends and co-workers. We are thankful for all the memories she has given us. Daniela is survived by her daughter Andreea (Andi) Reyes, son in-law Eric Reyes, grandchildren Taylor (Age 10), Maya (Age 8), and Chase Reyes (Age 4), sister Adriana Smeureanu, and ex-husband John Banu.
