Rosco Herman Flanagan, 82, of DeBary, FL went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 5, 2018, after a courageous 5 month battle with cancer. Rosco was born on January 13, 1935 in Layland, West Virginia to William Herman Flanagan and Ruth Glade Bess. in Layland, WV.

Rosco retired from Ryder corporation in 1994 where he was a Transportation Supervisor. Since retiring, Rosco and his loving wife Shirley have spent their time traveling and enjoying retirement in both Florida and in Atlanta, MI.

There was nothing more important on this earth to Rosco than his family.

Rosco is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Shirley Flanagan of DeBary, FL,; daughters Gloria Gilbert of Vero Beach, FL and Gayle (David) Joiner of Sanford, FL; grandchildren Andrew Gilbert of Vero Beach FL, David Brunelle of Vero Beach FL, Matthew (Mia) Gilbert of Vero Beach FL, Christopher Gilbert of Vero Beach FL, and Zachary Castillo of Sanford FL, and two great grandchildren Aiden Gilbert and Avalyn Gilbert of Vero Beach FL. Rosco is also survived by his siblings Carl Flanagan of Crossville TN, Herma (Thurman) Hayes of Clarksville TN and Kermit Flanagan of Apache Junction AZ as well as his beloved in-laws, Susie Gardiner of Windsor, Canada, Robert (Cathy) McDaniel of Morristown IN, Bill (Clara) Tapaninen of Southgate MI, Donna (Joe) Snodgrass of Greenwood, IN, Dan Tapaninen of South Rockwood, MI and Rick Tapaninen of South Rockwood MI and many nieces, nephews and cousins who loved him very much.

Rosco had a big heart for children and in particular those with special needs or those who had come from a difficult background. In order to honor his love of children, the family suggests a donation to the Make A Wish Foundation as an alternative to flowers.
