On October 10, 1949 a bouncing baby boy came into this world as the son of his proud parents, Peter and Lillian Solan. They named him Neville Claude, and he became the apple of his grandfather's (Pa John) eyes. Neville spent his formative years attending elementary school in Vere in the parish of Clarendon in Jamaica, and later attended high school in May Pen. He subsequently joined the workforce at the Monymusk Sugar Factory, and in no time was appointed supervisor. Later he went to work at the Freetown Paper Factory, and also became a supervisor there. When the opportunity to further his studies abroad, he wasted no time in joining his brother Lee in New York where he completed his education at the tertiary level.
It was in New York that he met and fell in love with his beautiful wife, Inez Dunkley, and this union produced three stalwart sons, Joe, Davian and Andrew. In the ensuing years, the couple moved to Flanders, New Jersey in order to secure a better learning environment for their children. Once again, his excellent leadership skills resulted in his promotion to supervisor at his workplace, Oxford Pendaflex. He also coached travel soccer and encouraged his children to participate in sports.
The couple longed for some warmer weather and decided to move to Orlando, Florida where Neville set up and managed his own trucking company as the Chief Executive Officer, a position that he occupied until his retirement two years ago. Neville was a go-getter and determined individual who believed that he could succeed against all odds. Despite setbacks in his business ventures at times, he never gave up and would work even harder to overcome the obstacles. He always maintained a sunny and pleasant personality and would always be the life of the party with his colorful jokes and distinctive laughter.
Neville was loved by his many friends and relatives who benefited from his kindness. Neville was a longtime member of Grace Bible Church of Central Florida. One of the things that made Neville happiest was playing the role of Grandpa to his grandchildren, Imani, Myles, Malcolm, Isaiah, Ayana, Aaliyah and young Nasir who came into this world a mere ten days before his passing. All members of his family were able to celebrate the festive season together at the end of 2021, and that made him a very happy man. Little did anyone think that this was going to be the very last time that the family would be together.
As we bid Grandpa Neville goodbye, we pray that his soul will find a resting place in God's arms. May light perpetual shine on him as he goes ahead of us. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Inez, sons Joe (Leslie), Davian (Mahdia) and Andrew, brother Al (Millie), and grandchildren (listed above). He leaves a group of life-long friends and family from Canada, England, Jamaica and the United States who will miss him dearly. He loved his nephew, Sheldon, grandniece, Lily, and grandnephew, Gordo, very much and was always very kind to them. He was pre-deceased by his older brother, Lee. He was also fond of referring to Al as his kid brother although he was only two years his senior. That's the nature of the man, always a caring and loving individual who felt that he had a protective role to play for his relatives.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Neville's name to:
